Acne & Acne Scarring
Acne is an extremely common skin condition and is likely to affect most people at some point in their lives. It often develops on the face, but can also appear on the chest, shoulders, back and other areas of the body. If severe and untreated, acne can also lead to scarring, permanently marking the skin. Scarring can be skin coloured, red or pigmented.
Causes
Acne is characterised by bacteria, oil and inflammation. There are many triggers including hormones, stress, over-exfoliation, incorrect product use and even diet in some people. When it heals, it can leave behind scarring. Acne spots vary in size, type and number, and include: Blackheads & whiteheads: yellowish bumps that can feel sore and firm Papulses & pustules: red bumps, which may have a white tip and be pus-filled Nodules: large, hard lumps under the skin Cysts: similar to nodules, but pus-filled
